Description
With pink ribbed and shaded petals splayed wide open, this dahlia completely fills the paperweight. But there's a reason why the artist made it this way! Dahlias like this are a style of Saint Louis, but many of the others don't fill the weight as completely as this one does. There are five tiers to this weight. The first one is the green leaves. The leaves are almost completely covered by the flower petals, and for good reason. Some of the leaves were damaged while the weight was being made. Instead of starting over the artist decided to just burry the leaves in flowers. Examine the photos closely. There are few stray bubbles and none of the lampwork out of place. It's condition now is essentially the same as when it left the art glass studio. Being unsigned, attribution is made by comparing subject matter and style to other weights of known and verifiable lineage. This paperweight compares well to: "The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights", Hollister, fig. 110 pg. 107.
