This is a very special paperweight made in 1904 as a personalized CHRISTMAS present for ADAH ARMITAGE of PORT HURON, MICHIGAN. The white plaque reads ADAH ARMITAGE / PORT HURON. MICH. / X-MAS 1904. The rough pontil mark on the bottom has been partly sanded smooth. The paperweight measures approximately 3 3/8" in diameter and 2 3/4" high, and weighs around 2 pounds. There are no chips or cracks or flakes. Almost imperceptible surface scratches as usual for a glass piece of this age. Please see my photographs for condition. Adah Armitage was born December 29, 1873 in Port Huron, Michigan to English born parents, Charles J. Armitage, a machinist, and Sarah Burnes Armitage. Adah was listed in the 1880 and 1900 federal census records as living in Port Huron, Michigan in 1880 and 1900, and in Detroit in 1910. She worked as a stenographer, and as a bookkeeper for an insurance company. She died on May 5, 1913 in Harper Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, and was buried Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron, St. Clair County, Michigan.
