Description
How interesting! This super-cool paperweight was created for an "Alice" at the La Salle Carnival (Illinois) in 1905, as the inscription clearly proclaims. Why is that interesting? Because according to the browser Bing, the carnival wasn't being held in La Salle until 1908. "T he La Salle Carnival was first held in February 1908 and was initially only a city celebration. It expanded to a national scope by 1912 and was held concurrently with the Philippine Exposition. It was discontinued in 1939 due to the outbreak of the Second World Wa r." And yet, the date on Alice's paperweight clearly reads 1905! This would be a wonderful piece for a museum interested in setting the record straight, or for a La Salle resident who collects local antiques, or indeed, for anyone who loves red paperweights. [Photo 3 shows the reverse side.] I've enjoyed it for years --- it's someone else's turn! To a good home only, of course. [Photo 3 shows the reverse side.] Measurements: 4" wide, 2.5" tall, and .75" deep. Folks, please make sure to read the Condition comments and view the photos. A surprising number of buyers seem not to have taken these steps before purchasing. I depend on you to ask questions about anything you see or don’t see in the photos. While I always describe what I think might make a buyer either curious or unhappy, I cannot always anticipate your questions, as they may concern your personal view of what is acceptable for you in a pre-owned or vintage item. If you have any concerns at all, please contact me before bidding, as good customer service is my primary goal. I leave feedback once a week or so, once I know from your own feedback that you are happy with your purchase. For this item you can choose either Priority shipping or Ground Advantage using the "See details" link beside "Shipping." Both carry tracking and insurance up to $100, depending on the cost of the item you buy. Please be aware that I recycle shipping boxes in order to save you a charge --- and to spare the landfill. Because I am downsizing, there are no international sales and no returns at present. Parcel will arrive marked "Fragile" and wrapped for safety. Thank you for looking at my items!
