OUR DESCRIPTION Hard to Find SPLENDID and Large ANTIQUE Millville Frit "THIS IS FROM A FRIEND" Art Glass Paperweight. (Pre 1915) This one is a scarce piece because it is a multi colored frit weight. It's beautiful colors consist of White, Green and Red Frit. The Snow White Letters and Love Bird carrying the note and the 2 Green Crossed Olive Branches with Red Berries, which is all situated nicely on a Clear Colored Ground. The bottom appears to be clear and is flat. The paperweight has been polished and except for a little wear on the base rim, I consider this Paperweight to be in Excellent Original Antique Condition. This lovely paperweight would make a fine gift to that special person in your life that you call a friend, that way every time they see it on their shelf they will be thinking of you fondly. This is a Large Size Paperweight that Measures 3-3/16" Diameter by 2-9/16" Tall. Please check pictures for further description. Short History of: Millville Glass Company / American Glass Companies Millville Glass Co. was know as one of the Largest Glass Makers in the Millville, NJ area (Circa 1880) and likewise the entire country. American Glass Companies Millville, New Jersey Southern New Jersey has been called "The Cradle of American Glass" for the same reason that it could be called "The Cradle of American Asparagus Farming." There's a lot of sand in the soil, and sand (silica) is what is melted to make glass. Many of the glass makers migrated to this area from Europe in and around the late 1790’s thru the mid 1800’s. There were so many in this area at the time, New England Glass, Sandwich, Boston, Gillinder, Pairpoint and Millville just to name a few. Glass factories have been here for over 200 years, but it wasn't until the late 1960s that someone decided to call attention to it. That someone was Frank Wheaton Jr., grandson of the founder of Wheaton Industries, one of the biggest companies in glassmaking.
